Kiran BK Signals Candidacy in Rupandehi–2, Pledges Crypto Legal Reform as Core Political Agenda

Kiran BK is expected to contest the upcoming parliamentary election from Rupandehi constituency–2, making the legalization and regulation of cryptocurrency his central political agenda. Speaking with the media on Friday, BK stated that he has been consistently advocating for crypto legality for the past six months, framing it as an urgent issue related to youth justice, economic growth, and Nepal’s future in the global digital economy.

BK argued that Nepal’s current laws, which criminalize cryptocurrency-related activities, have disproportionately affected young people. According to him, many youths are currently imprisoned and significant amounts of wealth remain under government custody due to what he described as unfair and outdated legislation that fails to align with global trends. He claimed that nearly 2 million people in Nepal show interest in cryptocurrency transactions, with approximately 500,000 youths involved in crypto-related activities on a daily basis.

He further stated that the outright ban on cryptocurrency has not eliminated its use, but has instead pushed youths toward unregulated and underground platforms, increasing their vulnerability to fraud, theft, and financial exploitation. “Making crypto illegal has unknowingly attracted youths toward unsafe and illegal networks,” BK said, adding that the existing law is inadequate to stop crypto transactions and instead risks sending more young people to prison, resulting in a direct loss to the nation’s productivity.

Calling for immediate policy reform, BK urged the government to draft clear legislation, create legal provisions, and establish a dedicated regulatory authority for cryptocurrency and blockchain technologies. He emphasized that a regulated crypto ecosystem could significantly strengthen Nepal’s economy and generate employment opportunities for Nepali youths.

BK also stressed that Nepal should move swiftly and adopt crypto-friendly policies ahead of other countries. He claimed that early adoption would allow Nepal to attract international blockchain and cryptocurrency companies, positioning the country as a regional hub for digital innovation. “If Nepal becomes one of the earliest countries to accept cryptocurrency, it can generate more wealth than many traditional industries,” he stated.

On the political front, BK claimed that raising crypto legality as a clear political agenda has earned him strong support among young voters. He asserted that around 500,000 voters personally support him due to this issue alone, and noted that he is increasingly emerging as a youth icon among tech-savvy communities, technology entrepreneurs, and Generation Z.

Looking ahead, BK pledged that if elected as a Member of Parliament from Rupandehi–2, he would work to release youths imprisoned for crypto-related business activities and initiate legal processes to return confiscated assets through parliamentary mechanisms.

However, acknowledging the current legal status of cryptocurrency in Nepal, BK urged youths not to engage in any form of crypto activity at present. He appealed to them instead to unite and work collectively through democratic and legal means to make cryptocurrency lawful through proper legislation.

Explaining his decision to directly enter parliamentary politics, BK said that attempting to convince senior political leaders on complex global developments such as blockchain and cryptocurrency has proven ineffective. “Rather than trying to convince old leaders who struggle to understand global technological shifts, I believe it is faster and more effective to take this responsibility directly to Parliament,” he said.

With cryptocurrency regulation at the center of his political vision, Kiran BK’s expected candidacy is likely to introduce a technology-driven and youth-focused narrative into the electoral discourse of Rupandehi–2.
