Kathmandu. Nepal Tourism Board’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Deepak Raj Joshi has stressed the importance of guaranteeing a sense of security assurance to boost the morale of the country’s tourism sector.
Addressing the 35th Special General Assembly of the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), CEO Joshi said that Nepal’s tourism industry suffered significant losses during the Genji Movement on September 8 and 9 (Bhadra 23–24). He emphasized that restoring confidence through a strong sense of safety and security is essential for recovery.
He stated, “The Genji Movement caused damage to Nepal’s tourism sector. Therefore, we must provide security assurance to rebuild confidence among tourism stakeholders.”
Joshi further highlighted that both the private sector and government agencies need to work together for the revival of tourism. During the period of the movement, the average daily tourist arrivals dropped to around 1,600, but he noted that the number has since been gradually increasing.
He said, “After September 8 and 9, tourist arrivals fell to 1,600 per day, but now the daily average has risen to around 4,200. The Tourism Board is actively working to convey the message that Nepal is safe and that everything has returned to normal.”
CEO Joshi also remarked that Nepal has faced some form of crisis every decade, underscoring the need for a permanent crisis management structure capable of functioning even during difficult times.
