Spanish Climber Rescued from Makalu Base Camp After Six Days

Kimathanka (Sankhuwasabha). A Spanish national stranded at the Makalu base camp for six days due to adverse weather conditions has been rescued by helicopter this morning. The climber, identified as Jesus Martinez Novas, was airlifted from an altitude of 5,700 meters, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of the District Police Office, Sankhuwasabha.

Novas had been trapped at Makalu rural municipality-2, following heavy snowfall and deteriorating weather. He has now been flown to Khumbug Pasang Lhamu rural municipality-4 in the Solukhumbu district for further assistance.

Authorities reported that approximately 70 foreign tourists and 60 domestic tourists were stranded at the base camp due to the same weather conditions. Rescue efforts have been ongoing to ensure the safety of all trekkers and climbers in the region.
