Kathmandu . The Government of Nepal is set to bring the activities of foreign nationals under state monitoring. The Department of Immigration announced that it will implement a new “Registration and Monitoring System” to regulate the entry, stay, and activities of foreigners in the country.

According to the department, the system will come into effect from October 17 (Ashoj 1) and will be mandatory in all star hotels within the Kathmandu Valley during the first phase. In the second phase, starting November 16 (Mangsir 1), the system will be expanded to all star hotels across the country, as well as to airlines, tour and travel agencies, and money exchange companies.

The department stated that this initiative will help maintain records of foreign nationals’ stays, facilitate emergency rescue operations, and curb potential criminal activities. “Monitoring the activities of foreign citizens is crucial for national security, international reputation, foreign investment, and tourism promotion,” read the official statement.

Furthermore, all public and private institutions providing services to foreign nationals have been requested to compulsorily integrate with the system. To ensure effective implementation, monitoring committees will be activated in all 77 districts of the country.
