Pokhara . Authorities have urged both domestic and international tourists to avoid trekking in popular Himalayan routes as the country braces for moderate to heavy rainfall and possible snowfall from today until October 6 (Ashoj 20). The forecasted weather conditions pose increased risks for trekkers in several high-altitude regions of Gandaki Province and beyond.
Assistant Chief District Officer Shiva Prasad Lamsal issued a public notice advising tourists to postpone their trekking plans to world-famous destinations such as Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), Mardi Himal Base Camp, Machhapuchhre Model Trek, Kapuche Trek, and Khumai Danda.
According to Lamsal, heavy rainfall may trigger landslides and slippery trails, while snowfall in higher elevations could create dangerous trekking conditions. “We strongly advise tourists and trekking agencies to remain cautious and avoid risky routes during this period,” he said.
Tourism officials have also mobilized local authorities and rescue teams to remain on alert for potential emergencies. Trekking agencies are encouraged to inform their clients about the weather warnings and prioritize safety over schedules.
The Annapurna region and nearby trekking trails attract thousands of tourists every year, especially during the autumn season. However, sudden changes in mountain weather often lead to accidents, making timely alerts and preparedness crucial for safe tourism.
