Nepal Wins “Most Charming Tourism Destination” Recognition at GITF 2026

Beijing: Nepal has been honored with the prestigious “Most Charming Tourism Destination” award at the Guangzhou International Travel Fair (GITF) 2026 held in Guangzhou, China. The recognition was awarded in appreciation of Nepal’s unique blend of natural beauty, spirituality, cultural diversity, and adventure tourism attractions.

The three-day international travel fair was held from May 21 to 23, 2026, where the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) coordinated Nepal’s participation under the theme “Nepal: A Lifetime Experience.” During the event, Nepal showcased its tourism potential in wellness, cultural, religious, adventure, outdoor, and luxury tourism sectors to international visitors and travel trade professionals.

Guangzhou, located near Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area, is considered one of China’s major commercial and tourism hubs and an important market for Nepal’s tourism promotion. According to NTB, Nepal has strong potential to attract Chinese tourists, particularly in wellness, pilgrimage, cultural, and luxury tourism segments.

On the opening day of the fair, May 21, Nepal organized a traditional cultural dance performance along with a special “Destination Nepal” presentation, introducing Chinese visitors and tourism entrepreneurs to Nepal’s rich cultural heritage and tourism attractions.
On May 22, NTB Senior Manager Bimal Kadel delivered a country presentation highlighting Nepal’s tourism destinations, opportunities, and promotion strategies. He also participated in a panel discussion focused on tourism market expansion strategies. NTB Senior Officer Pradip Basnet was also part of the official Nepal delegation at the fair.

The Nepal pavilion featured several visitor engagement activities, including a “Spin and Win” lucky draw program and a live demonstration of Nepali singing bowls as part of wellness tourism promotion. These activities emerged as key attractions at the Nepal stall.
Eight Nepali tourism companies participated in the fair, promoting trekking, tour, hotel, and hospitality packages to Chinese and international travel trade representatives.

Earlier, on May 20, 2026, Nepal Tourism Board also took part in the “Nepal: A Lifetime Experience” tourism promotion and B2B networking event held in Shenzhen in coordination with the Consulate General of Nepal in Guangzhou.

Currently, direct flights between Kathmandu and Guangzhou are being operated by Nepal Airlines and China Southern Airlines. NTB believes these direct air connections will further strengthen tourism accessibility between Nepal and China and contribute to increasing the arrival of Chinese tourists in Nepal.
