Nepal Tourism Board and Film Development Board Sign MoU to Promote Cinema Tourism

Kathmandu: With the objective of positioning Nepal as an attractive international filming destination, the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and the Film Development Board (FDB) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote film and cinema tourism.

The MoU was signed on Wednesday in Kathmandu by Deepak Raj Joshi, Chief Executive Officer of the Nepal Tourism Board, and Dinesh Raj Dahal (Dinesh DC), Chairperson of the Film Development Board.

This collaboration is expected to open the door for long-term strategic coordination between the film and tourism sectors. Recognizing the growing global popularity of film tourism, both institutions have expressed their commitment to jointly work towards its systematic and institutional development in Nepal.

Under the agreement, both parties will actively work to brand Nepal as an international filming destination, promote film locations as tourism destinations, strengthen the local economy, and create employment opportunities. The MoU also emphasizes ensuring Nepal’s active participation in international film festivals.

As per the agreement, plans have been finalized for Nepal’s participation in the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, the organization of a film festival in Pokhara, the launch of audio-visual storytelling campaigns, and the production of promotional materials related to film tourism.

The stakeholders believe that film tourism will help introduce lesser-known natural and cultural heritage sites of Nepal to international audiences. It is also expected that tourists visiting locations featured in films will directly benefit local hotels, transportation services, guides, and small businesses, thereby contributing to sustainable local economic growth.
