Investment Board Approves Betan Karnali Semi-Reservoir Hydropower Project, Rs 93 Billion Investment Planned

Kathmandu. The Investment Board of Nepal is set to approve the investment for the Betan Karnali Semi-Reservoir Hydropower Project (439 MW). The Board has decided to form a negotiation committee for the Project Development Agreement (PDA), channeling an estimated investment of Rs 93.4076 billion.

The decision was taken during the 67th meeting of the Investment Board, presided over by Prime Minister and Board Chairperson Sushila Karki, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) stated. The meeting emphasized advancing the semi-reservoir hydropower project to boost the country’s energy capacity.

In addition, the Board reviewed the progress of the Investment Board’s Office in the previous fiscal year 2081/82 BS and endorsed the annual action plan for the current fiscal year 2082/83 BS. This reflects the Board’s ongoing efforts to facilitate strategic investments in Nepal’s infrastructure and energy sectors.

The Board also authorized the CEO of the Investment Board to endorse the draft production license of the Lower Arun Hydropower Project (669 MW) and issue the license accordingly. Meanwhile, a proposal will be tabled to the Cabinet seeking approval for the direct agreement of the Arun-3 Hydropower Project (900 MW).

Furthermore, the Board decided to extend the timeline for the survey license of the West Seti Reservoir-based Hydropower Project (800 MW). The Prime Minister’s Office highlighted that these decisions reflect the Board’s commitment to accelerating hydropower development and strengthening Nepal’s energy infrastructure.
