Kathmandu. The international guests, faculty members, writers, and delegates participating in the Himalayan Literature Festival & Writers’ Workshop 2026 arrived in Kathmandu this morning and were warmly welcomed at The Malla Hotel ahead of the festival’s official programs.
Following their arrival and check-in, an orientation session was conducted for all participants, introducing the vision, schedule, and collaborative spirit of the festival. Faculty members from leading global institutions and literary communities were formally introduced to the participants, creating an atmosphere of dialogue, curiosity, and international exchange from the very first day.
During the orientation, the five distinguished faculty members — Yuyutsu Sharma, Tina Chang, Martin Doyle, Paul Muldoon, and Tony Barnstone addressed the participants and shared brief reflections on literature, creativity, mentorship, and the importance of cross-cultural dialogue. Reflecting on the gathering, Tina Chang remarked, “Yuyutsu said that he was grateful to have us here, but truly, we are the ones who are grateful.” Paul Muldoon also shared his excitement about visiting Nepal, saying, “Nepal was always on my mind since childhood, and I’m delighted to finally make it here because of the festival.” Their remarks set the tone for the days ahead, encouraging participants to approach the workshop with openness, courage, and intellectual curiosity.
The orientation also highlighted the festival’s commitment to bringing together emerging voices and globally recognized literary figures in Kathmandu for a week of conversations, workshops, readings, and cultural engagement.
The Himalayan Literature Festival & Writers’ Workshop 2026 brings together distinguished poets, novelists, scholars, translators, educators, and emerging writers from across South Asia and beyond.
