Kathmandu. Nepal is facing heavy rainfall in several regions, leading to landslides, flash floods, sudden snowfall, and widespread road blockages. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the rain is expected to continue until October 6. This prolonged rainfall has raised safety concerns for both domestic travelers and international tourists visiting the country during the busy autumn season.
As a precaution, vehicle movement to and from Kathmandu has been temporarily restricted until October 6. The decision aims to prevent accidents on major highways, many of which are prone to landslides during heavy rain. Domestic flights have been delayed for three hours due to weather conditions, while international flights are continuing as scheduled. Authorities have urged the public to postpone unnecessary travel until conditions improve.
The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has issued Situation Update – 12, outlining important safety advisories. Visitors are advised to stay updated with official weather information, travel only with registered companies, and check road conditions before starting their journey. In case of emergencies, tourists can contact the Tourism Crisis Hotline (Tourist Police) at 1144 for assistance.
Tour operators and destination management companies (DMCs) have been instructed to keep travelers informed, verify road conditions, and maintain regular communication with drivers and guides. NTB has also emphasized the importance of having emergency contact lists for local authorities and rescue services to ensure a quick response if needed.
Meanwhile, local communities have been requested to support travelers during this challenging time. With an estimated 20,000 visitors currently in Nepal, locals are encouraged to offer food, shelter, and help to those affected by the weather, while avoiding overcharging. Authorities have reassured that ensuring visitors’ safety and well-being remains their top priority as weather conditions continue to evolve.
