Kathmandu : The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) successfully organized a program titled “Promoting Disability Inclusive Agrifood System in Nepal” at Hotel Everest, Kathmandu.
During the event, FAO Nepal Representative Ken Shimizu highlighted the concept, importance, and potential of disability-inclusive agrifood systems in Nepal. He remarked, “Nepal’s climate, environment, and soil are highly suitable for agricultural production. If the government, farmers, and stakeholders work together, we can realize tremendous opportunities within the country.”

Renu Yadav from Siraha shared her inspiring journey as a person with a disability engaged in professional agriculture. “Through the Bhawani Farmers’ Group, I have benefited from over 500 projects and actively contributed to increasing productivity,” she said.
Similarly, Karna Bahadur Thapa, a marigold (Sayapatri) farmer from Banke District, shared his entrepreneurial journey, including the challenges faced and successes achieved in his floriculture business.

A key highlight of the event was the group discussion titled “Identifying Actionable Entry Points for Inclusion.” Participants were divided into six groups, each presenting practical approaches to enhance disability inclusion in the agrifood system.
The program is expected to make a significant contribution in identifying opportunities, policy directions, and actionable strategies to promote greater inclusion of persons with disabilities in Nepal’s agricultural sector.
