National U-16 Inter-School Basketball Championship to Begin on September 21

Kathmandu: A national-level Under-16 inter-school basketball championship is set to be held with the objective of promoting and institutionalizing basketball in Nepal while connecting young and school-level talents with the mainstream of national sports.

The National U-16 Inter-School Basketball Championship 2083 is being jointly organized by the Nepal Basketball Association, Nepalaya International and PABSON. According to the organizers, the tournament will be held from September 21 to 29 at the National Sports Council Covered Hall in Dasharath Stadium, Tripureshwor, Kathmandu.

A total of 40 teams from across the country are expected to participate in the championship. The tournament aims to provide a structured platform for the growing interest and participation in basketball among school and youth players while identifying, developing and encouraging talented athletes.

The organizers said the event will not be limited to a competitive sporting activity but will also serve as an important foundation for identifying talents at the school level and producing players capable of competing at the national level. The tournament also aims to promote discipline, leadership, teamwork, healthy competition and a strong sporting culture among young athletes.

Identification and selection of talented U-16 players will be one of the major focuses of the tournament. Players demonstrating outstanding performance and potential will be considered for further training, assessment and development, according to the organizers.

The organizers have also set a long-term goal of developing a strong U-16 national team from the identified talents and preparing them to represent Nepal in future South Asian Games (SAG) competitions.

The initiative also aims to strengthen schools as an important foundation for producing athletes and promote education and sports side by side. The organizers expect the championship to enhance cooperation and coordination among schools, coaches, players and other stakeholders in the sports sector.

The organizers expressed confidence that the championship will contribute to creating a long-term foundation for the development and expansion of basketball in Nepal and called for support from all concerned stakeholders for its successful completion.
