Kathmandu: Prioritizing the safety of mountaineers and mountain tourists, the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has handed over emergency rescue equipment to the Himalaya Rescue Association Nepal (HRA). The equipment handover ceremony took place on Thursday at the NTB office in Bhrikutimandap, with the aim of enhancing the safety of climbers and trekkers in the Everest and Annapurna regions.
During the event, NTB Chief Executive Officer Deepak Raj Joshi emphasized that the Board has been continuously working to ensure the safety of mountain tourists in Nepal. “Nepal’s Himalayas are a global attraction. The Board remains committed to ensuring the safety of climbers and trekkers visiting our mountains,” he said. “Our collaboration with the Himalaya Rescue Association also aligns with our goal of promoting sustainable mountain tourism.”
Similarly, NTB Board Member Narendra Dev Bhatt stated that rescue operations are not only about emergency management but also play a crucial role in building Nepal’s credibility as a reliable tourism destination. He added that the Board plans to further strengthen rescue and risk management efforts in the coming days.
Another Board Member, Rishi Bhandari, noted that since mountain safety is closely linked with environmental sensitivity, such support contributes to promoting responsible and sustainable tourism.
Receiving the equipment, HRA President Dambar Parajuli expressed gratitude to NTB, saying, “Rescue materials are essential for operations in challenging regions like Everest and Annapurna. This support from the Board will make our rescue efforts more effective and timely.”
The event was attended by NTB Senior Officer Hikmat Singh Air, Senior Manager Archana KC, HRA CEO Govinda Basyal, other officials from both organizations, and professionals working in the mountain tourism sector. The session was facilitated by NTB Senior Officer Siddhartha Bishwakarma.
